About Dental Bridges

Missing teeth can affect confidence in your appearance and may impede your speaking and eating abilities. Dental bridges close the gap left by a missing tooth, restoring uniformity and evenness to your smile while also enabling you to chew and converse naturally. Essentially, dental bridges can improve your quality of life. Dr. Susan Fredericks, a cosmetic and general dentist in the Woodland Hills and Calabasas area, is skilled in placing dental bridges at Southern Cal Smiles. They are crafted from high-quality, durable materials that blend in beautifully with your surrounding teeth so they are undetectable.

Dental bridges prevent your remaining teeth from shifting into the gap left by your missing tooth, and they cut down on your risk of periodontal disease and tooth decay. By closing the gap between two teeth, bridges can also improve the position of your bite. A typical dental bridge consists of two dental crowns that fit over the teeth on either side of the gap and support a false tooth that fits into the gap itself, but there are different variations to fit each patient's needs and goals. If you would you like to close a gap between your teeth with a beautiful and durable dental restoration, contact Dr. Fredericks at Southern Cal Smiles to explore your options.

What to Expect

To prepare the teeth for the bridge, Dr. Fredericks will file down the abutment teeth to create enough room for the crown. When your teeth are prepared, she will take digital x-rays and impressions to be sent to a dental laboratory where your permanent bridge will be created. Dr. Fredericks will cover your teeth with temporary crowns for protection until the permanent bridge is ready. Once the bridge is created, she will attach and adjust the fit for your ideal comfort and appearance.

Treatment Aftercare

With proper home care and regular visits to Southern Cal Smiles for professional cleanings and dental exams, dental bridges usually last 5 – 15 years or longer. A good home oral care routine includes proper brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once a day. During your future dental exams, Dr. Fredericks will check the condition of your bridge and let you know when it is time for a replacement.

Anticipated Costs

If you have dental insurance, some or most of the cost of your dental bridge may be covered depending on your carrier. Our office will coordinate with your insurance to minimize your personal cost. Southern Cal Smiles also accepts many payment options and we offer financing for our dental procedures.
